Tuesday mornings weight

250.0 lbs

That's cool... though it may just be from all the sweating I've been doing and all the water I've been drinking...

Tuesday, July 24, 2012

I need a new scale as my old one hasn't been working for awhile

I did weigh myself at a friend's house on Saturday though.

255 lbs.

So yeah.  Saturday was just under 2 years from when I started this blog and I boomeranged from the 278 July 2010 official starting weight to the low 204.2 April 2011 to the 255 July 2012.

Fuck me.

Let's not forgot my non-pregnancy 2010 high of 286 lbs.

so 2010 high = 286
          down     8 lbs
    2010 start = 278
         down 73.8 more lbs
     2011 low = 204.2
                up 50.8 lbs
current 2012 = 255 lbs

So, in the end I only managed to keep off a total of 31 lbs from my highest 2010 weight and 23 lbs from the weight I was when I first started this blog.

Do I feel like a failure?

Yes.

Am I ashamed of myself?

Yes.

Am I going to eat myself into oblivion?

No.

I've gone through some serious depression and a recent new diagnosis that I am still dealing with and am on some different medications.

I am to stay away from cardio, like the cardiologist told me back in 2011.  Walking and swimming were the recommended exercises for me as well as weight training.

So, we'll see what happens.

I can't promise I'll post here a lot.

But I'll try to post once in awhile so you know I'm still alive.

Things seem so bloody strange right now

Well my weight has gone up and down a bit but this morning I was at 257.0 lbs so no significant changes.

I am now on three medications.

Cipralex (20 mg), Wellbutrin (300 mg) and Topamax (20 mg) and I have a new (or additional - I guess I should ask how that works) diagnoses but I'm not going to talk about that right now.

My anxiety is very well under control.  As a matter of fact, I have actual FINGERNAILS, growing beyond my fingertips.  If I remember later, I'll take a picture and login with one of my other accounts to post it.

The heat and humidity are crazy around here.

We've had a fan and a window air conditioner going since we got up this morning and it is, at this moment, 27 degrees C in here!

Little Man is off at his father's for the weekend so Hubs is here with all his female-folk, myself, Rhyme Girl and I'm not sure what I should call the baby now since she is less a baby and more a rampaging toddler...

Any suggestions?

Little Man has attended one ABA group with some other boys with autism and will be attending another one, one evening a week through the summer.

I just completed the "It Takes Two To Talk" program with my energetic toddler and hopefully she'll get into speech therapy around September.  Still not sure if it's just the pragmatic speech delay or if she could be at the top end of the high-functioning end of the autism spectrum.

Rhyme Girl was doing the Wii Fit today and she's lost 2 lbs since she got here on July 2nd, which puts her at 156.6 lbs at the age of 12 and the height of 4 ft 11.

Her Wii Fit age was calculated at 25.

Hubs also did the Wii Fit today.  His Wii Fit age was calculated at 61 (he'll be 45 this year) and I was calculated to be 38 (I'll be 40 this year).

I have my next appointment with the psychiatrist on Monday and I'm not sure if I am going to peer-led group therapy on Tues, Thursday or both days this week.

I feel good about working on this stuff, though with the new information -- I have some new things to research/read up on.

In other news, we went to Teeswater the other weekend and had a wonderful visit with my Grandmother's cousin, who was a complete sweetheart!  It was a very peaceful town and it was relaxing.

A number of people in my adoptive family have found some great success using Weight Watchers.  So my brother-in-law, T,  gave me a points calculator yesterday.  I will give it a try, although I'm sure there are some foods I won't know how to calculate (like basmati rice for example).

I hope everyone else is happy and well!

Still alive and struggling

Hey there everyone.

Well, I'm still unmotivated, still trying to work out the best meds to help me through this time of depression and exhaustion.

Depending on the frequency of my sporadic bowel movements I am ranging between a low of 249.2 and a high of 252.4

I have started going to a peer-based support group and I am finding that to be helpful, especially since the person I was seeing at the counselling place is no longer there so I only had a total of 4 sessions with her.

The 4th session consisting of my freaking out because she told me while there that it was going to be our last session.

Baby Girl has been assessed with a speech/language delay.  I started the "It talks two to talk" program last week.

Little Man is participating in a group ABA program with some other boys around his age for kids with autism and I take him to that every Tuesday evening.

Hubs is still not working but has been getting coverage for some re-education programs.  He starts a Microsoft Office Suite course in a week or two.

My anxiety is very much under control, though I still have the paranoia issues but my depression just seems like it's getting worse and worse and I am struggling daily.

I am working so hard at sorting out my mental health issues and doing what I can to help my kids with their issues and be emotionally supportive of Hubs while he works on upgrading his education so he can eventually GET a job and support our family.

Rhyme Girl has been having a tough time at her Mom's with various things, so that's a worry and stressor for us as well.

*sigh*

I've been avoiding the blog world in general and I've actually been on Facebook a lot less as well.  It's almost like the more I have to leave my house to do other things, the more I hide away.

But - I'm not dead.

I've spent quite a bit of time on ancestry.ca and ancestry.com as well as findagrave.com as that tends to help me relax.

And I've been reading more again the past week or so.

So that's where I'm at.

I hope all of you are well.

2nd therapy appointment yesterday

So I had my 2nd session yesterday.

She said that we will start doing something called EMDR in a few more sessions.  Before my next appointment (in 2 weeks) I have to work on a timeline for her of positive and negative events in my life that I remember.

That may well be challenging because, frankly, most of my memories are negative as those are the ones that stick whereas the happy ones are harder to hold onto.

Yesterday I described the fact that, to me, happiness is transient whereas, in my ideal world, it would be a constant.

I think there were a number of emotional factors and stressors related to my unfortunate re-gain.

The counselor that I meet with told me yesterday that it is not her job to diagnose me or prescribe anything, it's her job to help me accept what has happened in the past and release all the negativity and fear that I hang on to.

Though she did suggest that I talk to my family DR about medication.

I'm still thinking about that.

If anyone reading has some experience with anti-depressant and/or anti-anxiety medication, feel free to comment or to message me privately.

Where I'm at - mentally, physically and financially

So what I tend to do when I get depressed is that I throw myself into something different.

I become less introspective and tend to internalize the things going on rather than dealing with them.

With that being said...

First things first.

Mentally - I'm still really out of sorts, unmotivated, depressed and frustrated.

Physically - I have only being doing the diaperfit class with Baby Girl and I've been eating complete crap. Ready for the horrible backslide confession???

I am appalled that I've done this.

But here we go.

*sigh*

Weight: 232.0 lbs

That's up 27.8 lbs from my all-time low of 204.2 back in April on this year.

:(

The things I've thrown myself into re: my main method of escapism...

#1 - genealogical research (which is actually pretty cool and is helping me feel more connected to the maternal side of my birth family.
#2 - online games - word games, yahtzee, FB games like who wants to be a millionaire and are you smarter than a 5th grader and family feud.
#3 - going out dancing with my friends (although I have been doing more drinking than my usual).
#4 - EATING CRAPPY FOOD!

Financially things are tight.  Hubs has not found work yet, though he did attend a job fair on Saturday and he has had 3 job interviews this week so we're hoping something comes of it all... though he'd most like to hear from the job fair and that's the one he hasn't heard anything from.

He was 62 hrs under what he needed to qualify for employment insurance so we've had no income since he was let go in Sept.

If it weren't for the fact that we live in geared-to-income housing and that I receive the Canada Child Tax Benefit for Little Man and Rhyme Girl - we'd be completely fucked.

Hopefully one of these interviews turns into a job.  Worst case scenario - we apply for Ontario Works (aka welfare) and I look into going back to retail part-time around whatever temp work Hubs can find.

*sigh*

re: the kids:

I've been having some real issues with Little Man and his temper... it's stressing me out a lot.

I've ordered a new book with some birthday money I received and once it gets here, and I read it - I'll either post here or on my kids blog about it.

And I'm still concerned about Baby Girl's speech development.

At her 18-month-appointment - she was not hitting all the milestones, but she was close.  Our family DR told me to wait until she's 2 and see how she's doing then.

This is the same thing he said about Little Man so I've got Baby Girl on a waiting list at KidsAbility just in case.

She is communicative - but she still uses a limited amount of words.

Because Little Man has autism spectrum disorder and Rhyme Girl has ADHD - I am really trying to be proactive when it comes to Baby Girl because that places her at an increased risk of having one or both of these issues.

I really need to stop being self-destructive re: eating crap, not exercising, not expressing my feelings & just HIDING from the things that are bothering me.

I can't promise that I'll blog as much as I used to -- but I am going to commit to making at least one entry per week.

I hope everyone else is doing better than I am...

SO tired!

Just a quick update to say that Rhyme Girl weighed herself before Hubs took her back to her Mom's today and she was 129.6 lbs.

Last time I mentioned her weight on here I believe was in July and she was 135.

And I think she was 134.6 at the beginning of August when she got here.

She was in 30 min swimming lesson classes for 9 days.  We also went swimming one other time.

She drank mostly water and we tried to have healthier food choices for the kids available (even though she and Little Man whined about it) but look what she did.

I wasn't even trying to have her lose weight, I was just trying to show her a way to be healthier and to teach her about portion sizes and such.

Of course then - I have no idea what will happen now that she's back at her mother's.

*sigh*

On the other hand, being back down to two kids in the house means a bit less stress for me and the repair work on the track at the rec centre should be done now so I can do the track with Baby Girl while Little Man is in his next round of swimming lessons.

P.S. I dyed my hair yesterday and had a haircut on Wednesday...

It's my blog-o-versary!

One year!

It's kind of hard to believe it's been one year.  And it's been a crazy year.  Highs and lows in life and lows and re-gains with weight.

Where I stand right this moment.

Weight: 216.0 lbs
Weight one year ago today: 278 lbs
Highest Non-Pregnancy weight: 286 lbs

Total maintained loss in one year: 62 lbs
Total maintained loss:  70 lbs

I am pleased with myself but there is still more to do.  With the no cardio from the first days in May until just last wk I regained weight as my lowest weight was 204.2 lbs so I regained 12 lbs.

I am told that with Baby Girl being weaned off breast milk in May as well that it would impact my weight loss.

Did I lose 100 lbs in a year like I wanted to (but was afraid to hope for)?  Nope but I got a damn good start on it all.

And what else have I done?

  • I have learned to say "no" to people when I need to or want to
  • I have tried new things like belly-dancing, boot camp & personal training
  • I have cut out SO MUCH of my prior negative self-talk
  • I am more active
  • I am actually preparing food at home beyond PB sandwiches
  • I feel better about myself and I show it with how I dress and behave
  • I pay more attention to the fuel I am putting into my body
  • I am going out more and overcoming my anxiety
  • I am happier & healthier

What is still in progress:

  • Continued healthy weight loss for myself
  • working with Hubs & Little Man & Rhyme Girl re: being healthier overall (Baby Girl is not a problem in that area)
  • more adventures in cooking
  • figuring out how to make time to blog when I'm home with the kids or (with this crazy heat) out and about with the kids all day and exhausted by the time I get home again
Overall,  I'm happy with myself.

  1. I've survived the stress of a fire next door that had us in a hotel for 5 days. And the subsequent dealing with other people and paperwork related to that event.
  2. Hubs and I survived him being out-of-work for over a year.
  3. I made it through the stress and worry of some cardiac tests and now know that I may need to take it a bit easier with cardio but I don't have to STOP.
  4. I will be doing readings in two of the four weddings I am attending this year.
  5. Today I am going out with a group of women I don't know (other than soul sister, C., her Mom & her aunt & Darci who I met yesterday) and going mini-golfing, to a pole-dancing lesson, to dinner and then to club I've never been to before for dancing.
I want to thank everyone who has been a part of my journey so far -- please know that I appreciate your support and your inspiration!!!

Been busy with school being out

Have Rhyme Girl and Little Man home with Baby Girl and I. And it's always so HOT in our unit. Most mornings this week it's been 27 degrees Celsius when I've gotten up at 6:30 a.m.

We've spent a number of days this wk with 1G1D1Y and her kids, swimming. Though Baby Girl has been a bit of a wiener so I haven't done much swimming.

Little Man would like to take swimming lessons. This is something I've wanted for him for awhile but he's been resistant to it so the fact that he wants to do it now is pretty exciting. I'll have to look into when classes are available for him.

Last night the kids were looking at pics of Hubs and I as kids and then they wanted to look at their little books for each year of school and I noticed something...

Little Man was 40 lbs in junior kindergarten and is only 53 lbs now, going into Grade 4 for September.

Rhyme Girl we had her weight listed at the end of Grade 2 at 95.4 lbs. She is currently 135.4 lbs just finishing Grade 5 and is going into Grade 6 in September.

Looking in my book - my Mom didn't tend to note my weight or height very often. In Grade 1 I was the shortest kid in class at 43 inches tall.

In Grade 7 I was the shortest kid in my class and I weighed 74 lbs.

In Grade 8 I was 4 ft 11 and the shortest in my class and had written "NO COMMENT" in the weight section.

In Grade 9 I was 5 ft 3 and 100 lbs.

I graduated high school weighing 128 lbs and being 5 ft 5 and 1/4"

I'm 5 ft 5 and 1/2 now. (My driver's license lists me at 5 ft 6 though).

Baby Girl has been walking up a storm and attempted one solitary step yesterday. Up onto the step, back down, up and back down.

On Wednesday my oldest niece delivered her 3rd child (my newest great-nephew) at home and I haven't been by to see them yet but the pics on FB show him to be a gorgeous new addition to the family.

And now for some pics...

OH MY GOODNESS!

"We're sorry, but you have exceeded your photo upload quota."

What do I do now?

Confessions of an almost 39-year-old slacker

It's hard for me to commit to things.  I'm easily distracted and I tend to hide out rather than fight when it comes to things in my own life - because I'd rather stand up for someone else before I stand up for myself.

There are a lot of things going on in my head - some stress related to my life and some related to the lives of those I love.

I know that's natural but it's still hard to deal with.  I am hoping that Hubs continues to enjoy and do well at the new job (it's been a week and a bit now) so that we will eventually qualify for benefits because I am thinking it would be good and healthy for me to get back into therapy.

As of now, I am not sure what coverage we'll have  but I believe it's psychologists only that are covered (Hubs borrowed another employee's handbook to peruse for a day because he hasn't received the info on benefits yet).

I've been considering Cognitive Behavioural Therapy - but I'll have to see if I can find someone that our benefits will cover, when that time comes.

This wk I've really made an effort to re-motivate myself and get back on track.

BUT even though I will not hit my 178 lb goal by my 1 year date of July 23rd, I can still make a dent in this and start getting the scale to work with me in the direction that I want.

I drop off the heart monitor on July 4th and I meet with the cardiologist again on July 12th and hopefully they will put my fears to rest so I can get back to the activity level I was doing before without worrying that I'm going drop dead.

Another thought I had was that I think my general life stress was making the chest pain and breathing issues worse because even when the monitor has gone off, it hasn't been as intense as it was before and the only real change since then is that Hubs started his job.

time is wonky re: receiving a phone call

my "getting serious" expression

Baby Girl had her 15-month appointment this afternoon

Her weight is 21.78 lbs
Her height/length is 30.75 inches

According to a baby growth percentile calculator that means for her age that she is:

Length = between percentile 50 and 75
Weight = between percentile 25 and 50

She fell asleep in the car afterwards (she had her Pneumoccal conjugate vaccination but we declined the chicken pox vaccine).

Since she was asleep - we went for a drive though the less populated areas nearby and saw a turtle (which I stopped and took a photo of).

Then she and Little Man played outside and she had her first independent ride on the teeter-totter (Little Man was on the other side) but Baby Girl held on all by herself!

Her next appt at the DR is Tues., Sept 27th at 10:30 a.m.

In other news, Little Man got his report card.  He is advancing to Grade 4 in September.

His highest grades were in French (A in writing, A - in oral communication & B+ in reading) compared to his English grades (C+ in writing, B- in oral communication & B in reading) and that C+ was the lowest grade that he received.

The deal we have with the kids is that they get $2 for each A (whether or not it's an A+, an A- or a regular A) and $1 for each B so he's got a $21 dollar report card.

And earlier today, I did my 5k at the track with Baby Girl and I edited this post at 8:07 p.m. to list my steps for the day -- 9738 steps.

An update...

Well, being in fear of the scale... I am sitting at 209.6 lbs so I am up 5.4 lbs from my April weight.

I am looking fwd to getting my cardiac stress test over and done with on the 24th and then getting back on track re: exercise.

On Sunday we spent the day with Hubs' family.  We also visited his grandmother in the Extend-A-Care home.

She seemed happy to see us but she never once called any of us by name so we can't be sure she actually knew who we were (though she was very engaged with Baby Girl and seemed to recognize Hubs even if she didn't once use his name).

Baby Girl took ONE STEP without holding on to anything or anyone and Nanny was delighted!

Earlier in the day we were with Hubs' parents and that was nice.

Yesterday - over 12000 steps

Had an evening out at my old stomping groups.

Though I also drank alcohol & pop (a few rye & ginger ales), plus water.  Ate a big street-meat hotdog with a bun and had chocolate earlier in the day. So let me get the crappy part out of the way first...

Weight: 206.4 lbs

Hubs was home with Baby Girl (who was still wide awake when I got home after 2 a.m.) and he was very cranky and pissed off at me.

When I got home he was complaining that if he was due home at such and such a time and then was late and didn't call that he'd be read the riot act.  I pointed out that he often doesn't call me when he arrives or leaves from his parent's place - which is much farther away than the club is.

He said that that is not the same.

I also pointed out that I had said, "I think we'll probably leave around midnight."

Whereas Hubs took that to mean, according to what he said last night when I got home, that I would be home between 11 and 11:30.

Also, when he called as I was standing outside the bar having a late night street meat hotdog (yep, can't even remember how long it's been since I had one of those) he was mad that Baby Girl was still up.

I asked if he'd heated up a bottle for her and tried that rather than cold milk in the sippy cup.  He said yes he had.

This morning I checked and he had not.  When I called him on that one, he apologized and said he was angry and confused last night.

Now you may recall that the last time I went out to the club (Xmas Day night) I also came home around this same time and he was made and upset that I didn't call to say that I was going to be later.

I think the next time I go - I'm just going to tell him that I'll be home around 3 a.m. and then when I roll in earlier than that - he'll be happy that I was home earlier than I said.

Sound like a plan???

Late afternoon yesterday - Hubs and I took Baby Girl up to St. Jacob's for a walk on the trail that we like.  It wasn't very crowded and was still a little muddy but it was nice.  By the time we got home I was up at just over 6000 steps for the day.

In the a.m. S-girl and I went out to MEfest.  Two of my friends were vendors at the event and there were a lot of different work-from-home/start-your-own-business type things as well as services geared towards women.

Let me look in my bag of handouts... and I'll post links for the people at booths that I spoke to:

(Apparently I do not have cards for a few booths we visited... the one that had the paci-strings and the one that had the yummy, decadent pretzels... I'll have to check with S-girl about those ones.)

Good morning! A weigh-in and an award post

weight: 204.2 lbs

Slowly but surely - I'm getting there!  It's been a struggle lately but I did receive a number of compliments yesterday... from my friend's childcare provider and from some of the other parents at Son's Kung Fu class (two of them, about an hour apart said to me, "Oh my God, you are shrinking every time I see you.  You look fantastic.")

It's hard to believe that on April 4, 2010 I was 286 lbs.  I am down 81.8 lbs since then! (And yes, I know I'm really only tracking from when I got focused on July 23, 2010 when I was 278 lbs but I need to celebrate all the weight I've lost since just after I had Baby Girl).

I received The Versatile Blogger Award from the lovely and talented Ellen @ Fat Girl Wearing Thin yesterday.  She couldn't remember the rules & neither can so I'll have to edit this later because Baby Girl is squirming and I have to get dressed so we can go to the Farmer's Market.

Also, I need to post my previously prepared music post...

30 days of songs - Day 6 (and a weigh-in)

OK, on the scale this a.m.

weight:  205.4 lbs

I still have a long way to go - but that was still nice to see.

Had a bit of a tiff with Hubs yesterday because he's feeling like I want to spend my time with my friends rather than with him.  I did point out that we do spend the majority of our time with each other but he's usually ornery re: his current state of joblessness so it's not feeling like quality time.

As well, I need time out with 1G1D1Y, S-girl & K so that I can bounce ideas around re: improving his mood and therefore the energy of our household.

Now - 30 days of songs...

day 06 - a song that reminds you of somewhere

Getting ready to go

No change on the scale this morning... still 206.4 lba so I guess I did a good job with my eating in moderation yesterday.

And that was naked on the scale WITHOUT having breast-fed Baby Girl for about 8 hrs and during my TOM aka period aka Shark Week.

LOL!

Today shall entail at least 5 hrs sitting in the car if traffic is OK. 2.5 hrs to Step-Daughter's mother's place and 2.5 hrs on the way back.

That's if we're lucky.

So wish us luck :>

Celebrating Baby Girl's bday today!

weight: 206.4 lbs

Well, today is the day we celebrate.

The cakes are baked - the icing is a disaster but it'll be edible.

Veggies are chopped, cheese is sliced - and my reputation as a NON-domestic goddess shall persist for years to come.

But, it's all been done with love.

And a blogger asked me today if I like Kevin Smith.

I back-dated and added a cross-post from my other blog that I wrote in Nov after seeing Kevin in our area.

I also have an autographed copy of his book, "My boring ass life" which Hubs got for me in 2007 (and here's a pic of Hubs with Kevin Smith).

And, one of the early crass things I said to Hubs was, after he'd moved in with me, I was talking about Kevin Smith and Hubs was all, "Who?"

My response was, "I can't believe I let you put your dick in me, when you don't even know who Kevin Smith is!"

Of course, I still love Hubs even though he also fails to understand the awesomeness that is Monty Python too...

This is a nice start to the day

weight:  206.8 lbs

Of course this is now the lowest weight I've seen since 2006.  This was where my weight loss completely stopped in 2006.

And prior that, I hadn't seen this weight since around 2001 (other than early 2003 when I had the Norwalk virus and went under 200 until I was able to keep down food again and then returned to 211 or so.

I've tried to be really calm with my slowdown and not use it as an excuse to binge (especially with some emotional stress happening).

But I have to say I am glad to see another drop and I will be posting more of them!

I have to go back to the DR today re: another issue - though I am now debating delaying going because I don't think Hubs will be back with Step-Daughter in time to watch Son & Baby Girl (since I don't want to take them with me)...

Have a great day everyone!
