feel like puking

I have been awake since I last breastfed baby girl.

Am typing in the dark.

I am feeling the physical aftermath of the stress... feel like puking. Wish I had a key for 1g1d1y's door - then I'd go to my unit and start some laundry or something because I can't turn off my brain rihgt now.

I feel thankful and angry. I feel stressed and yet relieved that it wasn;t worse (because it could have been).

I really feel like crying.

no idea if insurance will cover anything re: smell issues from the smoke.

our deductible is 1000

I have to do a fuckton of laundry...

bedding, clothes, stuffed animals

throw out food that was in cupboards (though fridge and freezer stuff should be fine)

I don't know how to get the smell out of our unit as quickly and efficiently as possible and I feel whatever I'll need to do will be expensive

  1. Oh, gosh, look I would be totally overwhelmed in your situation, take it easy, one thing at a time, there's so much to do and I feel for you, hang in there.

I'd come over ready to man the washing machine but I'm a bazillion miles away...sending lots of strength and hope to you, one foot in front of the other...you can get through this.

  2. Hey, you know we got your back babe... I know it will be a pain in the ass but like I said, silver lining! What a good reason to go through all of you clothes and toss the non-keepers!

  3. I'm SO SORRY. If I lived closer, I'd come over and help. *GREAT BIG HUGS* Keep your chin up, okay?

  4. I am with the rest of these ladies. I wish I could come and help you.. but sending a mental hug your way..

My only advice is to take pics of EVERYTHING! Even the food you throw out.. If you have good insurance, they should reimburse you for everything you throw away (of course, they have their ways of doing it)..

  5. I am glad you guys are all okay. I'm sorry to hear about all the damage to your things...what a mess. Keep bloggin it out instead of eating it! You have come to far to slip into old habits!

  6. FAB, give this a try: take 2 parts water to one part white vinegar and boil it on the stove for 30 minutes. Your place will smell strongly of vinegar but the acid in it cuts through smells like nothing else, and it's cheap. If you have any humidifiers, put vinegar in that as well. Your house should smell significantly less off smoke. I did some research for you on the Internet and the vinegar/water solution appears to be the most effective.

  7. So sorry to hear that! We've had similar events twice so far - once when my sister almost burned the house while cooking and everything was covered in greasy black... and the other when a New Year's Eve rocket set our roof on fire and I awoke in my bedroom upstairs with my pillow catching fire. Both times there were tons of work getting the smell and all the black stuff out of the house... I hope you'll be doing fine!

  8. I think there are actually disaster cleaning companies that will come and take care of everything for you-what they cost however I don't know...but I'm guessing you need something industrial. And hey, puking is ok, as is crying.
