Dreaming of death and tattoos

Odd dreams last night.

I dreamed that my across the road neighbour died (though I never did find out how).  Generally a dream like that does not result in someone's actual death - but they usually have something major change in their lives.

Though when I dream of someone being hurt - usually something comes of it (or, more often, I warn them when I dream something like that and I hear of some "close call" shortly thereafter).

The other thing I remember dreaming about was standing with my shirt pulled up and a tattoo artist drawing on the right-side of my back and down towards my butt - trying to come up with a tattoo design that was both artistically acceptable to me as well as being not too expensive.

He was trying to incorporate my version of short prayer.

What that means is... For a number of years, I focus on the following when I don't have a specific thing to pray about.

Protection (envisioning an egg, held in the claws of a dragon)
Strength (envisioning the back of a well-muscled man, doing a muscle man pose)
Perseverance (envisioning an archer shooting arrows at a far-off target)
Wisdom (envisioning the Thinker)
Oneness with the Universe (envisioning being wrapped in a blanket covered with stars and then standing, head high, arms and legs spread out, the night sky blazing with stars, grounded in the earth, feeling the wind and somehow, sensing the sun even though it isn't visible.

It prompted me to do a bit of googling and I came across this:
http://www.ancient-symbols.com/symbols-directory/hunab-ku.html

The link states the following:  "The Hunab Ku is an ancient Mayan symbol that is said to represent the Supreme God or the One Being, with ‘Hunab’ meaning ‘one state of being’ and ‘Ku’ meaning ‘God.’ It encompasses all opposites in the universe and unites them as one: male and female, dark and light, yin and yang, conscious and unconscious, internal and external—the list goes on. Some believe that the Hunab Ku acts as a bridge to connect these opposites.

The Hunab Ku symbol is testament to the belief that it can unite opposite forces. It can be likened to the yin-yang symbol, with black spirals on one side, and white spirals on the other. Much ado has been made out of it; especially because of the Mayan prophesy about the year 2012, when the sun will align with Hunab Ku (the galactic center of the universe or the black hole discovered by scientists).

Despite predictions about the future, the symbol is still considered a powerful one. It can be used to achieve balance and harmony in life because of its intrinsic powers of uniting or bridging opposites. It can also be used to connect one’s inner being with one’s external body or to achieve oneness with the universe."

Although it seems very strange of where I dreamed I was going to be tattooed because I have one tattoo - a gargoyle on my right thigh.  I always thought if I got another, it would be on my left thigh to sort of balance things out.

If anyone has a theory on this (other than "maybe you want another tattoo") - feel free to share it.

  1. The first thing I thought of when you mentioned the yin/yang was the fight you mentioned with your husband about too much girl time. yin = male yang = female. There must be a balance of the two.

Or, I could be talking out my ass. Who knows ; )

  2. LOL! I think my time with any of my girls tends to be used more productively in that we talk about emotional things, we get physical exercise and we tend to unburden ourselves in general.

Whereas when Hubs and I are home, it's hard to be motivated to accomplish even basic household chores. He's been down for awhile and I think I get sucked into his apathy when we are together and I begin to resent the fact that I feel like he's bringing me down.

So when I go out with the girls, I am blowing off steam, I am reconnecting with myself so that my relationship with Hubs doesn't blow up and it gives him more of an opportunity to try and sort out himself (even if I often feel like he just ignores and/or wallows in his frustration and negativity rather than trying to work through it or move past it to focus on the now and then dip into it to deal with it in manageable doses).
