April is National Poetry Month

What a tease
bright and shining
almost within reach
dancing across the uneven pavement
making patterns
across the mud
and the remaining snow

Fooling me
with a hint of warmth
like a sly smile
that flashes quickly
and vanishes
making you doubt the truth
of your eyes

I am not the only one waiting
for all the warmth that you can give
to longer days with muted skies
to naked trees and sleeping bulbs
to cold earth and frozen water
to animals great and small
longing for every day to feel like Spring
