The good and the bad

We are back in our unit today (though the air scrubbers are still going, but the smell is much improved).

That's a good thing.

The bad = our $1000 deductible. Doesn't look like our claim will exceed that so we are just out the money and I'm sure our insurance will go up even though none of this was our fault.

The also bad = my weight. Not sleeping or BEING at home since Thursday morning = no cooking, less exercise, more stress and way, way WAY LESS SLEEP.

I'm going to be recording my first actual GAIN *sniff* since I started this journey in earnest in July 2010.

I've decided I'll weigh myself tomorrow morning for the official number, but I am hoping to have a decent night's sleep tonight and such.

But I am not happy about this.

And my start to the New Year in general with the fire and everything really blows.

*sigh*

The only thing I read about the fire next door was this:

A fire Thursday evening at a Beechwood Drive townhouse was caused by an exhaust fan in the kitchen that was clogged with grease.

Firefighters arrived at 5:45 p.m., evacuated the family inside and treated the mother, who got a burn on her finger while trying to put the fire out. There were no other injuries.

Damage to the home was about $60,000 to $70,000,
Fire Department Platoon Chief Mark Schedewitz said.

The motor in the stove’s exhaust fan likely started the fire, which was then fuelled by a buildup of grease on the fan, he said.

“People don’t take the fan out and clean it every once in a while,” but they should, he said.

Anyway, that's about all I have to say at the moment.

We've got lots of laundry to do and cleaning and eventually some grocery shopping to replace everything that we had that was open and not in the fridge or the freezer.

  1. Hang in there. That's incredibly tough to have to deal with, but having insurance is a silver lining at least.

    Try not to focus too much on the gain! This is an abnormal situation. That you get back to it as soon as you can matters a lot more IMO.

  3. I'm so glad things are getting back to normal for you after such a scary situation. And that you got through it with only smoke damage, and nothing worse! *hug*

    I agree with Robin. You did the best you could when circumstances were beyond your control. Now it's time to forgive yourself, and then get back to it. :)

  4. I'm glad you're back home. *Hugs* I don't know if I would have handled the situation as bravely as you did, so I commend you for that. If you show a gain, please try not to let it get you down. Like someone above me said, things have been beyond your control the past few days, and you handled it the best way you could, so just put that (possible) gain behind you and look forward. I'm just so thankful none of you were hurt. *HUGS*

  5. So glad you're home. I'm sure that's quite a weight off your shoulders, even if you are out the money. I agree with everyone else, you've had a lot on your plate. Don't beat yourself up too badly.

  6. So sorry to hear about your fire, this is enough stress to impact your body for sure so don't be hard on yourself. You deserve to give yourself some slack. Stay on plan and you'll see the pounds come right off!

  8. You've been very fortunate to not have a gain since July. It happens. As long as it doesn't happen often. And given what you've been through .... that would have sent most people over the edge. And eating out all the time .. the fastest way to put the pounds on. A week of regular eating, sleeping, exercising, drinking (water that is), back to a routine, and the weight will be back off.
    Hang in there girlie ... you have to come bathing suit shopping with me (I still can't believe I've committed to a bikini ... yeesh). Love you guys!

  9. Remember to breathe. You have proven to yourself and everyone else that you know how to do this weight loss thing, and I have no doubt that you will get right back on course. Your body is now accustomed to losing and will help you regain your path.

    I am sorry for all the stress you are experiencing right now due to the fire and the loss of money. Frustrating to have to pay when you had no part in the fire or its ramifications. But you can do this and recover.
